Digital Torque Wrench

For more accurate and precise readings, consider an electronic torque wrench.

With a digital torque wrench the measurement indicator is a gauge attached to the body or torsion rod. The electronic processor then reveals the pressure on the digital LCD display. You can set pre-programmed settings which will guide, by beeping or vibrating, during the tightening process. The latest generation of torque wrenches can store all the measurements made in an internal readings memory which can be transferred via USB to a PC or printed out. A popular application of this kind of torque wrench is for documentation or quality assurance purposes.

A quality torque wrench is going to cost several hundred dollars at a minimum. This cost has to be judged against the parameters of the job at hand. If you are a mechanic or a shop owner/worker whose livelihood relies upon the work you do with your dial torque wrench, then spending the extra money for a quality instrument is a no-brainer.

Again, the certificate of calibration indicates that the tool was calibrated to as near perfect specs as possible at the factory. A digital torque meter is used to measure torque while tightening and loosening fasteners. Torque meters work in both clockwise and counter-clockwise direction so that both tightening and loosing action can be measured. Wrenches with built in torque indication have an indicator display of the various readings. Another popular application of the torque meter is to measure the torque setting of auto-stopped pneumatic and electric screwdrivers and torque wrenches. Meters come in different sizes, ranges and some are cordless and powered by a rechargeable battery.

Think of all the applications in an auto mechanic shop that require an automotive torque wrench. From transmission work to brake work to probably the most widely thought of uses of torque wrenches in auto repair, head gasket work. Cars today require ever more intricate maintenance and that includes the importance of proper torquing of bolts throughout the mechanical systems.

CDI Torque Wrench

CDI Torque Products makes specialty torque wrenches and is a Snap On company. This electronic torque wrench is a simple to use wrench that displays torque values in any of four torque units, ft. lbs., in. lbs., Nm, and metric kg. cm. You can preset the required torque and the LED light will illuminate once that level is reached. CDI tools are common in the automotive, motorcycle and watercraft repair industries, aircraft applications and other high-tech bolting uses. Several wrenches feature a 15-degree flex ratcheting head and a push button socket release. The ergonomically designed molded rubber grip allows for superior control of the instrument. For convenience, if the set torque value is exceeded, an audible alarm is triggered.
